Speak Up for Health Program

About This Program

"Speak for Your Health" is a youth-for-youth initiative aiming to empower children from various backgrounds to build communication skills, health-awareness, and lifelong habits through the intersection of health education, public speaking, and artistic expression. Led by a group of volunteers, including past public speaking champion, the program aims to address many obstacles that young teens face today, including mental health struggles, stigma, and maintaining healthy habits.

Our volunteers lead the classes through guided speech workshops, book-based discussions (such as The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey), and expressive art activities. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), about 1 in 5 adolescents report symptoms of anxiety or depression. Through this program, we will foster open communication with kids and encourage expression of one's thoughts and feelings. We hope to build informed and empathetic young adults who understand the health system/health literacy and work to create a safe space for their own peers.
